Since Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry began in 1983, it has
received over 20,000 calls with useful information, resulting in
over 2,025 arrests and charges. Over $1.7 million worth of
property has been recovered, and over $600,000 worth of illegal drugs
and weapons have been removed from the community.
2005 was one of the most successful years in the Crime
Stoppers of the Lowcountry's 23 year history. Figures show that
the numbers of calls and arrests both reached record highs.
Calls to the Crime Stoppers tipline have increased by 24% since 2003,
while arrests were up 22%.
This new volume of calls means that every day, people are
arrested and charged as a result of information given to Crime
Stoppers. Crime Stoppers also plays a vital role in making
communities safer from violent crime.
Surveys show that Crime Stoppers has 91% brand awareness
across the US and can offer an unparalleled and much-needed
means of reducing crime.
