NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Fire heavily damaged a home in the North Charleston's Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood early today.
Crews responded to the two-story building at 3339 Kraft Ave. at 5:01 a.m., Battalion Chief Eric Phillips said. Firefighters spent about 5 minutes putting out the smoke and flames they found on arrival. The blaze left significant damage to the first floor of the building, an old store that had been converted into apartments.
The apartment is believed to be occupied, though no one was home this morning, Phillips said.
The cause was under investigation.
